5G status in 3GPP and future directions past phase 1 5G
The presentation provides summary of the Phase 5G development in 3GPP. Further the future directions of 5G standardization are covered past 2018 milestones, which will require co-operation between research and standardization to allow successful 5G evolution to address new 5G market segments. 3GPP Release 16 and beyond expected evolution is covered.
Antti Toskala is responsible for Nokia’s radio standardization. He has his MSc in Electrical Engineering from Tampere University of Technology. He has been the author and editor on the many books in the field, including recent books on HSPA+, VoLTE, LTE-Advanced and LTE Small Cell Optimization. He participates to 3GPP RAN standardization, and has also chaired 3GPP TSG RAN WG1 during HSPA development until 2003. As part of the 2010 LTE World Summit LTE Awards, he received the “Award for Individual Contribution for LTE Development” recognizing his contribution to both LTE standardization and LTE knowledge spreading in the industry. In 2015 he was nominated as Nokia Fellow. Currently he is Bell Labs Fellow, leading radio 5G and C-IoT standardization, as well as spectrum regulation.

EDGE INTELLIGENCE- The central cloud is dead – long live the edge cloud!!!
Driven by the internet of things, (IoT) a new computing model – Edge-Cloud Computing – evolves and is extending data processing to the edge of a network in addition to computing in a cloud or a central data center. edge-clould computing models operate on premise and in public and private clouds, including devices, base stations, edge servers, micro data centers, and networks. expansion of the IoT and the digital transformation is going to create entirely new businesses and markets.
Container technology and machine learning are the leading technological responses to the demands of these new businesses and markets. bringing these technologies to the edge, will fulfill the promise of edge intelligence. 5g is bringing together it and telecommunication, e.g. by enabling data centers at the edge and the possibility to implement industry specific networks enabled by virtualization and software defined networking principles into a single environment. Most of the anticipated 5G applications are driven by the internet of things. This presentation provides the following conclusions:
Micro-data centers will become more important, for a number of reasons, including providing low latency and processing large volume of data, avoiding their transportation to the cloud.
5G networks will provide data centers at the edge and the possibility to implement industry specific networks enabled by virtualization and software defined networking principles.
As iot makes manual data input largely obsolete and machine learning and artificial intelligence take over the decision making, this becomes a reality.
This presentation has formulated recommendations based on a review of Use Cases v. existing technology and standards. additionally, this presentation suggests that all recommendations be demonstrated and supported by the use of a Test Bed.
Mr. Yun Chao Hu is employed by Huawei Technologies since March 2011 and works for the Huawei West-European Headquarter (HQ) located in Düsseldorf (Germany). His current function within Huawei is the Director of the Standardization and Industry Development Strategies within the EU Industry Standards Department. He leads a team of standardization experts working in the areas of IoT, Cloud Solutions, NFV, MEC, 5G Slicing and Industry 4.0 He is currently responsible for the corporate NFV standardization strategies and is heading the Huawei Delegation within the ETSI ISG NFV activities. He is elected as the NFV EVE WG Chair, who drives the new NFV requirements and features.Yun Chao is bridging the telecom related standardization with the industry vertical standardization and actively involved in the IEC MSB projects and IEC SEG8 on communication technologies and architectures. Furthermore, he is playing a key role within Huawei in mapping industry requirements on 5G Slicing. Yun Chao has a very solid standardization background and had several positions within different standardization organizations, such as 3GPP, ETSI, ITU-T and Open IPTV Forum. He attended a wide range of standardization technologies, i.e. Intelligent Networks, IMT-2000, 3G Core Network, IPTV and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). His standardization positions are Open IPTV Forum President and the Board Chairman (2007-2011), 3GPP CN4 and CN5 WG Chairman (1999-2001), ITU-T Rapporteur Q.24/11 (1997-2000), ETSI MEC Vice Chair (2015-2017), NFV Industry Engagement Officer (2015-2017) as well several NFV Working Group Chair positions (since 2015). His international experience was assignments within Japan, Sweden and China for almost 10 years.
Dr. Janne Peisa, Ericsson Research, Finland
5G Techniques for Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication
Janne has been working at Ericsson in the research and development of 3G, 4G and 5G systems since 1998. Previously, he has coordinated Ericsson’s radio-access network standardization activities in 3GPP, and currently leads the Ericsson Research 5G standardization program. In 2001, he received the Ericsson Inventor of the Year award. He has authored several publications and patents and holds both an M.SC. and a Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki, Finland.

Autonomous vehicles will eliminate 90% of road accidents and we all will be connected to them
This keynote will provide a holistic picture of the components of a complete mobility system based on self-driving cars and autonomous vehicles. The picture includes much more than the vehicle itself. The autonomous ecosystem will be all connected in Vehicle Segment, Neighborhood Segment, Support Segment, Service Segment, and Manufacturer Segment.
This creates an intricate network of communication paths with varying performance criteria. Some information is needed within milliseconds, and some messages may be passed at lower priority on a daily basis. Not only the vehicles will be connected, but their riders, pedestrians and other road users as well. 5G helps to solve many challenges of this autonomous future and this keynote will provide views of the key applications.
Tero Heinonen is an entrepreneurial and experienced start-up executive with a successful track record and experience from international high tech business management, sales and technology management with excellent industry knowledge of several industries, and target-driven hands-on attitude. Tero has co-founded 5 technology companies, where he has served as CEO and/or Chairman. Since 2000 Tero has been focused solely on startups, including Maventa Ltd (exit 2013), Uoma Oy (exit 2010), Tema Networks Ltd, Helmi Technologies Inc., CargoTrax Ltd, BLStream Ltd, Locus Portal Corp. (exit 2004), Synapse, and Optiwise Inc. Before startups Tero worked in business development at Stonesoft Corp (IPO 1999) and in business management at Tekla Corp. Tero started his career as a software developer in 1986. In 2013 Tero founded Sharper Shape, a global leader in drone based asset inspection. Tero has appeared broadly in media regarding drones in publications such as USA Today and Fortune.
